The DataGoneWild Reporting Blog is meant to be a "day in the life" of a solutions provider. Expounding on what I do on a daily or weekly basis hopefully will help others who are in similar roles in their employment. I spend my days developing reporting and programming solutions for internal and external customers. I have been involved in reporting and solutions development for the past 20 years in the area of Information Technology. For years the reporting solutions I worked on were based on Crystal Reports but in the past year I have converted over to SQLServer Reporting Services. While there are some features in SSRS which I prefer over Crystal, the fact that Crystal Reports is a more mature product, there are definitely some advantages with Crystal. Obviously in time SSRS will be a mature product and with that will come enriched functionality.
Data presentation is also a large facet of what I want to discuss in this site and in this blog. Reporting solutions are the foundation of what I develop but the art of presenting the data properly and in a clean, concise, manner is just as important, especially when it comes to presenting the data to end customers.
The reporting solutions depicted throughout this website were developed utilizing Microsoft's SQLServer Reporting Services(SSRS) and the charting is accomplished using Dundas Charts. Both applications are being refined and developed and are adding more functionality with each release. Anything that I learn in my daily development with SSRS or Dundas Chart can be found in this site.
